50th Anniversary Kickoff & More, Letter from the Owner (11/29/15)

Dearest WIXY1260Online Friends,

On behalf of the entire WIXY1260Online Family, I'd like to invite you to join us as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of iconic Cleveland radio legend station, WIXY 1260 AM. I have spent the past 4+ years developing a station that brings back the memories of the station many of us grew up listening to and falling in love with. While there have been some bumps along the way, and bound to be more, I am proud to report that we have experienced tremendous growth and success, thanks largely to you the listeners and to a team of professionals I am proud to call my friends here at the station. As a happy coincidence, it has been a great and unexpected pleasure that the station has grown to include over 22,000 listeners all over the world and nearly 6,000 fans on Facebook - certainly not what I expected when I started streaming the station on a rainy day instead of my originally planned camping trip! 

Another happy coincidence (or unhappy if you're noticing more gray hairs like me) is that December 12 of this year marks 50 years since our beloved WIXY 1260 AM was born. To honor the memory of our predecessors, we are proud to host our 50th Anniversary Celebration Kickoff party Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at Tommy's All Fired Up (1325 Linda Drive, Rocky River, Ohio) from 8 PM to Midnight - join us!

50 + 5: WIXY 1260 and WIXY1260Online Celebrate Milestones (11/2/15)

This year, WIXY 1260 celebrates TWO anniversaries! On December 12th, the original WIXY1260-AM was born in 1965....50 years ago! And October celebrates 4 years that its successor, WIXY1260Online, was born! In October of 2011, Gary Schmitz and Ray Glasser began the online station on Live 365, moved it to Loudcaster, then ultimately went with CentovaCast where it currently is. Both Gary and Ray had no idea if it would even last 6 months, or if anyone would even care.....but here we are, 4 years later, with a team of about 15 people, a customized home studio, TWO remote studios, and world-wide acceptance and popularity!

Beginning in December, 2015, WIXY1260Online will be celebrating the colorful memories and rich history of WIXY 1260, which was launched in December 1965, with some special public events, special prizes, a special 50th Anniversary mouse-pad (now available on the WIXY1260Online Merchandise page), a special 50th anniversary countdown show and recordings from both original WIXY jocks and current WIXY1260Online members.

Keep your eyes and ears peeled as more details are forthcoming in the following days and weeks!

A New SuperWoman is Here! (9/23/15)

Give a warm WIXY welcome to our newest member and only female DJ, Gretchen Holly!

A graduate of broadcasting school and an on-air talent and board operator for WLKR/K96 (Milan, Ohio), Gretchen's love for the music of the WIXY era (60's and 70's) really shows through in her knowledge and delivery. This young lady has a voice and level of professionalism that rivals that of those twice her age and we couldn’t be more thrilled to have her on our team!

New Live Shows (9/7/15)

Our listeners have spoken, they want more live shows... so be on the lookout for even more new live shows in the near future, and thanks for your support as we continue to show, "The Future of Radio is Now!"

• Beginning Saturday, September 19th, Eric Ochs's new weekend shows will consist of Saturdays and Sundays from 11 AM to 3 PM.
• Beginning Sunday, September 20th, Marc Flanagan will be on the air every Sunday from 3-7 PM (this is in addition to his current post on Thursdays from 7-11 PM).
• Beginning Saturday, October 3rd, Robb McSwagger returns to WIXY1260Online to fill the Saturday night slot and will be online from 8 PM to Midnight.

Management Announcement: New Sales Manager and Revised Websites (8/31/15)

We are pleased to announce that Eric Rath, our Remote Technician and Saturday afternoon DJ, has been promoted to Sales Manager. Eric has been a tremendous asset in getting the station more involved in the community through live appearances and has been a key member in making such appearances possible - this promotion is a reflection of his efforts. Going forward, Eric will be the lead contact for all event and advertising sales.

This month we rolled out a better defined rate structure so that those wishing to hire WIXY1260Online for an event or advertising will have the information they need and a partner, in Eric, to move forward for mutual benefit. Based on recent listener feedback, we've worked to streamline and downsize our website and will continue to look for ways to both add value and increase user friendliness. Management Announcement, Staff Promotions (rev 7/31/15)

We are pleased to announce that TJ Chizmar, our Webmaster and Communications Director has been promoted to Assistant General Manager. TJ has served an essential role with the day to day operations of the station and will continue to manage our web presence, and will also Supervise the Staff and coordinate our internal communications so that we can more effectively work as a team as we continue to add live remote show events to our calendar and grow the station.

We are also pleased to announce that Ray Glasser (air name Ray King) has been promoted to Programming Coordinator as he has been the primary person responsible for managing the product that enters our music servers and will continue to serve as our Videographer and Production Manager.

WIXY1260Online Release Regarding: New Stream WIXZ1360Online

LAKEWOOD, Ohio, August 8, 2014

Lakewood Radio Station WIXY1260Online is launching a companion stream on its sister station, WIXZ1360Online (via wixz1360online.com).  WIXY1260Online will focus on all of the great music many remember from the golden era of our parent, WIXY 1260 AM, specifically the early 1950's through the mid 1970's (with some later music mixed in if requested during our live shows).

While WIXY's McKeesport, PA, sister WIXZ reflected the WIXY format and sound in its early years (WIXZ existed in a number of formats from when it ran from 1969 to 1998), WIXZ1360Online will focus on mainstream post-WIXY music (from the mid 1970's through today).  WIXZ will benefit from the ability to utilize many of the WIXY jingles (as its parent did) since many of them sound the same phonetically, however, there will be many WIXZ specific jingles introduced as well.

WIXY1260Online is hopeful that the large variety of music, a more listener driven approach, a lower ‘cost to enjoyment’[1] ratio than competitor formats and many 'convenient' and progressive ways to listen across the globe will provide great enjoyment for listeners.  Additionally, a variety of great music that intentionally leaves room for those who prefer the earlier music to the newer and vice-versa will benefit audiences across multiple generations.  WIXY1260Online believes, “The Future of Radio is Now!”
