Newsletter 10/24/2020: Spooky Good!

Happy Rocktober WIXY Fans!

Well, the colder weather may not be so happy but here at WIXY1260Online we hope you'll tune in and tell your friends to heat things up with us and our great hits of the past and our smokin' live shows!  As we look to bare trees and that forbidden "S" word here in Northeast Ohio, there's one "S" word we can all agree on... Sound!  At WIXY1260Online we pride ourselves in delivering the highest quality sound you've ever heard your favorite songs in, all while consuming the lowest data amount versus our competitor streaming formats, and we do it for FREE!  Why go anywhere else?

SPOOKY GOOD LIVE SHOWS

This Halloween we are excited to announce that our "Vampire of Vintage Vinyl", Ray T., will be back in the studio for a special Halloween day show from 12-4 PM to get your blood curdling, err, pumping.  Yes, the Vampire will be tricking and treating us to the best hits of the WIXY Era, with that special Spooky flavor he is so well known for!  Be sure to tell all your ghoul and gal friends, it's sure to be a haunting good time.  Then stick around for our man, Shaggy, from 7-11 PM for his weekly Shaggurday Night show!  Remember, all of our live show times are in the Happenings Section of WIXY1260Online.com - be there or we'll send the toilet-paper gobblins to your haunted house!

MORE GOOD NEWS, NEW DJs

The past few months, we have happily added some new skeletons to our closet, err, DJs to the WIXY Staff!  We thank you all for supporting WIXY newbie Mac G., who is live every Tuesday from 2-6 PM.  We are also super pumped to have a real radio veteran join our staff...  Kevin O'Neill of WGAR fame and whose spent many years rocking Detroit radio professionally, and who has often lent his pipes for many of our liners and commercials as our Announcer, is now sharing that fantastic talent with us!  Kevin's smooth voice helps us over the hump every Wednesday night from 9PM to Midnight.  And stay tuned, we have another DJ who is getting fitted for his shackles, err, coming soon.  Our DJs love to entertain you and we couldn't be more stoked!

If you or someone you know has what it takes to help us bring the music to our listeners or would like to volunteer, check out our Current Volunteer Opportunities section at the bottom of our About page at WIXY1260Online.com

CORONA CAN'T KEEP CHICKENMAN CAGED

You may have noticed we recently did a live show at Suds Maguires in Berea, Ohio, on October 16th.  After a successful night, and a special visit from our friends, The Outsiders, we will be there with Tony Z and the ChickenMan House Party again on November 20th from 6-10 PM.  The venue features a great selection of food, drinks and plenty of room to spread out for social distancing, and with enhanced sanitizing in place so you can safely enjoy the great sounds we will be featuring.  Be sure to join us or tune in!

Thanks for your support as we now celebrate our 10th year of brining this great music and station back to life.  We've made lots of friends but always want more, so be sure to tell everyone you know that WIXY is back!  And even with 10 years under our belts, we always seek your feedback to help us continue to improve - be sure to send us your thoughts any time, good or bad, using the Feedback button on our Contact Page... we want to be your favorite station!

This message sent in gratitude and loving memory of one of WIXY's original founders, Norm Wain.  Rock in Peace good buddy!

Newsletter 9/8/2020: Time Won't Let Me

Greetings WIXY Fans,

As summer comes to an official close here shortly, we continue to be hopeful for a solution to the COVID crisis facing us all.  Despite the lockdowns, safety practices and adjustments we all have had to make, we continue to be dedicated to filling in those days with your favorite music and live shows.  While we didn't get out as much this summer, we enjoyed the events we were able to safely pull off and look to bring you more great events in the future.  Until then, stock up on your favorite fall-themed items and those pumpkin spice goodies (or not!), and remember to tune in and keep those song requests coming - and remember to tell your friends!

ROADS, RAILS -N- SALES

Speaking of remote events, we are looking forward to our Saturday, September 26th appearance at the Roads, Rails -n- Sales event at Black River Landing in Lorain from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. ET.  There will be a Flea Market, a display of Motorcycles, Cars & Trucks, a 50/50 raffle, and food & drink vendors with all proceeds going to the restoration of the Lorain's Caboose C-3855.  Masks and social distancing will be in practice at the event. (More Info.)

TEN YEARS, AND COUNTING!

Time has really got the better of us all, and WIXY1260Online is no exception.  It seems hard to believe that we will be entering our 10th Year this month and entertaining folks with the best variety of the 60's and 70's, bringing the the much loved magic of WIXY 1260 back to the airwaves.  We've been fortunate to meet and work with some really great people over the years, and there is not one regret - just many learning experiences as we continue to bring back those great memories and make many new ones.  I encourage all to visit our Gallery for some videos and photos of our fun (and sometimes a bit crazy) past.  Our listeners and your dedication to carrying on this great musical tradition truly make it all worthwhile, even during the most difficult times.  At the same time, we ask for your help in continuing to support the station by checking out our Merchandise page or by considering advertising with us.  The station is a non-profit venture that exists for your entertainment and the fun of all involved, including our awesome volunteers.  We have always strived to grow a station that can bring so much fun and quality music to our fans without the greedy eyes of a corporate board figuring out every last way to squeeze money out of people's pockets.  If we are in your pocket, it should be because you have our free mobile app downloaded to your smartphone and are enjoying this great music for free everywhere you go, 24/7/365 - the way Radio should be!!

As our awesome friends, The Outsiders, sing "Time Won't Let Me," we ask that time not let you forget these great memories and music and to share the love freely with your friends, fellow music lovers and families - we want to be your Go To station and encourage your feedback, always.

Much WIXY Love!

Newsletter 7/15/2020: Making New Memories

Greetings WIXY Family,

We hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the summer months in ways maybe we haven't had to in our lifetimes.  As we all adjust to a new (hopefully not lengthy) normal, we have all had time to perhaps tackle those lingering home projects, clean out cabinets, organize the sock drawer, and maybe even practice your tech skills to learn the many different ways to tune into WIXY1260Online.  As we all sit wondering what will happen next, we continue to hope for the best and try to get on with life as we best know how...keeping contact with loved ones, making new memories and re-living those great ones of the WIXY golden era.

STUDIO SHOWS STATUS
Earlier this year we had to hunker down during the first lock-down from COVID and we all learned some valuable lessons on how to handle this and prepare ourselves should the need, God forbid, ever arise again.  After putting some of our DJs on hiatus while others worked remotely, we eventually welcomed back our full staff of DJ's and made some big adjustments at the studios to accommodate social distancing and sanitary procedures.  And while most things went better than expected, it was not all smooth sailing.  These times have created unprecedented stress in our nation, and we weren't exempt.  As a result, we had to make some very difficult choices on how best to proceed safely and get back to the basics of what makes this station so great and worth investing in.

There are folks who have pointed out that our live shows add personality to our excellent variety of music, and we love interacting with our listeners.  Some have commented that our team is all voluntary and we should be happy to have any volunteers work for us.  In theory, perhaps, but the reality is not every volunteer is built the same.  We have the option, as people who are doing this for sheer enjoyment, to surround ourselves with folks who share our ideals and common goals.  With that said, we have made changes to our staff and internal structure, as well as some adjustments to our programming to make life easier for our DJs and just as fun for our listeners.  Beginning July 20th, our new live show lineup will debut and focus on peak listenership hours to reach as many fans as possible while not spreading our DJs and Staff too thin.

We hope you stick around and continue to fight COVID (and general grumpiness) with us here at WIXY1260Online, where 'The Music is the Star.'  Our regular show schedule is available on our website (www.wixy1260online.com) and show reminders are posted to our Facebook page 15 minutes before they begin.

REMOTE SHOWS / LIVE EVENTS / YOUR HELP NEEDED
As I wrote in my last newsletter, our remote events like our regular appearances at the Club House and IX Auto-Rama were cancelled. While we can't shake hands right now, we kindly ask for your help to spread the word that great 60's & 70's music can still be heard for free 24/7/365.  Also, check out our Merchandise through the link on our website.  Proceeds from sales support our operational costs and keep us as your best option for listening to this great music.  Thanks to everyone who has supported us through the years, we hope for many more to come!

We were fortunate enough to play host to The Outsiders on July 5th for our first ever Virtual Concert.  We hope all who listened enjoyed and we appreciate the positive feedback.  We thank all who made it possible, including our staff and The Outsiders, who joined us to raise $750.00 for The Providence House as part of this event.  We are perfecting our skills in this new Virtual Concert world and hope to have more exciting things in store for you in the future.

As of the writing of this e-mail, we are scheduled to appear at the Annual Mentor Cruise-In on Saturday, August 8.  We encourage interested parties to visit our Happenings Page or The City of Mentor's Info page for all the details (social distancing should be followed and masks should be worn).

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone reading this and to all who have entered the Wild World of WIXY.  Our hearts and thoughts are with you, those effected, and those serving on the front lines during this pandemic.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay strong!

About WIXY1260Online

From 1965 to 1976, WIXY 1260 AM was an incredible force in the Cleveland, Ohio, radio market, and has never been forgotten. Now, two WIXY fans from Cleveland, with a great set of volunteers, have given the station new life...on the Internet. WIXY1260Online has been active since October 2011 and offers the same high-energy music and fast pace that made the original WIXY a legend in the annals of Top 40 Radio! The top hits and local favorites that were played on WIXY 1260 AM can be heard once again at www.wixy1260online.com. All songs are in a high-quality format, many of which are available in stereo for the first time, and can be heard for free, 24/7/365.

Newsletter 5/6/2020: Long Overdue Update - The Show Must Go On

Greetings WIXY Family,

We hope everyone is doing well and finding healthy ways to cope with the unprecedented situation facing us.  We're finding that many of you, and many new folks, are tuning into WIXY1260Online as a coping mechanism.  So, the toilet paper may be in short supply, but the best music ever recorded can always be found in plenty supply!  Thanks to everyone who has been tuning in and sending in those song requests - we always want to play what YOU want to hear.

STUDIO SHOWS TO RESUME
It's been a little over a month now that our Live Show lineup went into "survival" mode, or as our morning DJ, Jeff Strich, likes to call it, "DJs without borders."  A big thanks to our DJs for stepping up to work remotely to keep our live shows going as we put the studio into lockdown mode.  I am happy to report that, while this was a resounding success, we will be returning to the Studio on Friday, May 8th at 7:00 PM ET with Tony Z & The ChickenMan House Party.  Be assured that we are doing this in a safe manner and taking extraordinary steps in sanitizing the studio and enforcing social distancing measures.  We understand it may be a long time before things are semi-normal, but the feasibility of doing remote shows for an extended period of time is not practical given our programming needs.  Nonetheless, our team is committed to being diligent for the health and safety of all while returning to some sense of normalcy for our listeners.

Our regular show schedule is always available on our website's main page (www.wixy1260online.com) and we will post it on Facebook very soon.

FACILITY & TECHNOLOGY UPGRADES
At the end of last year, I announced we would be upgrading many technological components of our operations.  Despite the hurdles presented by COVID-19, things have gone as well as or better than we could have expected.  While some of the upgrades are not noticeable to our listeners, some upgrades should be.  We launched a new website in the last quarter of 2019 which improves mobile usability as well as download times by consuming less of your data.  Similarly, we launched new mobile apps that have been a resounding success.  The new apps are free and available for download in your app stores and were designed to keep you connected to us on the go while consuming even less data than our old mobile apps.  Currently, we are putting the finishing touches on our remodeled Production Office and my office too.  We've invested in new equipment and applications to make things more efficient, cost effective, and yes, more technologically sophisticated because at WIXY1260Online - The Future of Radio is Now!

REMOTE SHOWS / LIVE EVENTS / YOUR HELP NEEDED
Unfortunately, the pandemic forced us to cancel our appearance at this year's IX Piston Powered Auto-Rama as well as many of the events we love to see you at.  Please continue to tune in and visit the Happenings section of www.wixy1260online.com as things slowly come back online and we can once again commit to future events.  Two of the ways we pay for this station to operate at no cost to our listeners are through limited advertising and paid events.  Since events have been canceled indefinitely, we have had to be creative to keep the Station online.  A way you can help is to buy our Merchandise through the link on our website.  Proceeds from sales directly impact our bottom line and keep us as your best option for listening to this great music.  Thanks to everyone who has supported us through the years, we have no intention of giving up the ship anytime soon - we just love doing this too much!

Prior to the pandemic, we were fortunate to have visits from Larry Morrow and Cleveland's own, The Outsiders.  Needless to say, we had A LOT of fun and a lot of new listeners discovering what we've known all along.... fun radio is better than paid and corporate radio any day!  Let's keep it that way.  We are patiently waiting for the time to come that our friends from The Outsiders and other original WIXY 1260 AM DJ's can pay their visits (and yes, MORE LARRY MORROW!) - stay tuned, we'll let you know as details emerge.

A heartfelt thanks to everyone reading this and to all who have entered the Wild World of WIXY.  Our hearts and thoughts are with you, those effected, and those serving on the front lines during this pandemic.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay strong!

Much WIXY Love,

TJ

Special Announcement 3/29/2020: COVID 19 Operational Plan

All,

The past few weeks, and for unknown how many weeks to come, have brought a lot of stress and uncertainty to the nation and the world. This epidemic, regardless of whether you consider it to be serious or media-hype (I am stuck somewhere in between), has made everyone re-think a lot of things and alter our lives in ways we thought unimaginable.

Despite so much talent and dedication from all of our Staff, these times have forced us to make some necessary temporary adjustments to the way we operate. This coming week we are rolling out a temporary live-show lineup which maintains live shows during our typically peak listening hours. We have several DJs who have demonstrated remote capability and the schedule flexibility to make this work. Our normal studio operations have been suspended so that our DJs can work in a safe environment. This reflects a hard decision to act responsibly to limit everyone’s exposure and to yet maintain a personable presence with our audience.

During this situation, we will only be able to take song requests via our Mobile Apps, Song Request form on our website or through e-mail to requests@wixy1260online.com

We WILL get through this, and I encourage everyone to stay positive and hopeful for a swift recovery to everyone effected. Please continue to be vigilant in your daily lives and hygiene practices, and most importantly, BE SAFE!

MUCH WIXY LOVE!
