SHEFFIELD LAKE, Ohio – David
Sprouse, a forty-six-year-old man from Northeast Ohio, needs a kidney
transplant because of complications from an injury while working at the FORD
Motor Company over 10 years ago. According to David, he developed an
infection from a strain of bacteria called MRSA. David reluctantly started a
“gofunme” campaign, https://www.gofundme.com/a-kidney-transplant-for-christmas,
to help with the costs of the transplant, recovery time, rehab expenses, lost
wages, etc.
According to the Mayo Clinic,
MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus and is an infection
caused by a strain of bacteria that is resistant to the antibiotics commonly
used to treat ordinary staph infections. MRSA infections typically occur in
patients who have been in a hospital or other health care settings. MRSA
infections start as small, red bumps that can quickly progress into deep, painful
abscesses that require surgical draining, notes Mayo Clinic. In some cases, a
MRSA infection remains on the skin; however, it can spread into the body. Once
a MRSA infection has spread, it can cause infections in the bones, joints,
surgical wounds, the bloodstream, heart valves and lungs.
David has also lost his
mother to MRSA, she passed away in 2013. David believes she contracted the
bacteria while caring for him. David has had skin sores and eye problems,
he lost a foot and has had many issues with joints. In the middle of all
this, he was diagnosed with a chondrosarcoma (cancerous tumor) on his brain
stem. His kidneys were affected by all the medications, and are now shutting
down. According to David, “Just one good kidney would keep me alive!”.
Seven people have volunteered
to be tested as potential donors. David is hoping to have the surgery and begin
the recovery within a month or two.
David is a beloved teacher at
the Ohio Media School, beonair.com, in VALLEY
VIEW, Ohio, he’s a writer and photographer for the Northeast Ohio Sports

and allsportscleveland.com.
David is also an on-air talent at WIXY1260Online.com.
